Our Graduates Class of '23!

Congratulations to our graduates, Class of '23! We are so proud of our students! Here is a highlight of some of our graduates this year!

Zamarion Isley
Zamarion Isley joined the AAMI when he was only a second grader at Wiley elementary. From the time we met him, he enjoyed the unrelenting love of his mother Ms. Shamir Booker. His first mentor through the AAMI was his teacher Ms. Stephanie Jefferies. Not only did Ms. Jeffries serve as his teacher and mentor, but she also volunteered with the AAMI summer camp that Zamarion participated in every summer. When Ms. Jeffries took a job in Alamance County, Zamarion received a mentor by the name of Mr. George Byrd. Zamarion returned to school many Monday mornings sharing the adventures he had on Mr. Byrd’s farm. Zamarion loved riding along with Mr. Byrd in his tractor. As a high school student, Zamarion’s mentor was Mr. Henry Salers. Among other things; they enjoyed attending athletic events, exercising and playing pickle ball. Zamarion was a picture of resilience and personified the award of “kept coming back” award. After Zamarion failed and repeated an academic year, he did not allow that to derail him from reaching his goal of someday graduating from high school. Congratulations Zamarion Isley!

Shana Perry
Shana Perry is a COMEBACK KID!! She has faced many life challenges most of her life, but she has been resilient and has strapped on her boots and climbed every mountain she has faced. Shana's story includes a journey wrought with emotional pain. Her earlier years were not full of skittles and rainbows and although she felt she could not escape the dark cloud that seemed to loom above her, she didn't give up on walking into a future so bright she would be blinded by its radiance. She has developed into the strong, witty young adult she has become by using her gifts of humor and art to mend her heart and to lighten the weight she has had to carry. The crooks and turns of her journey have exposed her to various stops along the way in D. C. where she was born and resided until she came to Greensboro, N.C. in ninth grade to live with extended family. She has crossed paths with special people who have poured into her through mentorship. Some of these people have kept her elevated by praising and encouraging her and have not allowed her to fall or fail. Shana has challenged herself with honors and AP classes and has managed to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher since enrolling at Dudley. She has taken nursing classes and will graduate on June 11th with her CNA license. Shana plans to attend UNCG in the fall and will major in Nursing with a minor in Social Work. She has a compassionate heart and a thirst for helping people. She wants to be a Traveling Nurse and looks forward to exploring the world. She no longer walks under a dark cloud and can finally "taste" the rainbow. Congratulations Shana Perry!
Vesean Moorehead
Our first CIS senior spotlight is Vesean Moorehead! Vesean began working with CISGG in 2nd grade!!! In 6th grade, Moorehead relocated to a different school district so he wasn’t able to continue participating in our African American Male Initiative program at Communities In Schools of Greater Greensboro. Nevertheless, Moorehead did attend our summer camps every year thereafter even though he was at a different school (one out of our district). We want to take the time to congratulate Vesean on his recent milestone! The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. While CIS provides students access to support and resources, a student's success ultimately lies within them. Congratulations Vesean!!!
